Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) has organised a hands on workshop on ‘Bronchoscopy and critical care thoracic ultrasound’ for two days on June 23 and 24.

Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) has organised a hands on workshop on 'Bronchoscopy and critical care thoracic ultrasound' for two days on June 23 and 24.

It was conducted by the Department of Medicine, SVIMS in collaboration with Dr Vaidehi Kaza, visiting faculty and Associate Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at University of Texas in South Western Medical Centre. During the workshop, the selection, assessment of patients, procedural technique of advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy including transbronchial lung biopsy, evaluation of patients with ICD and critical care thoracic ultrasonography technique were discussed for better patient care and improved outcome.

Also, multidisciplinary critical care concentrating on patient monitoring, assessment of severity of illness, detection of early warning signs and establishment of daily goals of care in various aspects of critically ill-patients to improve patient outcome was discussed. The workshop was conducted as part of manpower development for 'Institute of lung disorders and transplantation,' one of the 10 institutes of excellence in the road map of SVIMS as proposed by Director Dr TS Ravikumar.

The in-charge Director Dr M Hanumantha Rao, Head of Medicine Dr Alladi Mohan, Head of Anaesthesiology Dr Alok Samantaray and other faculty members have participated.
