It is well known that Mahesh Babu teamed up with ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli for Varanasi movie. Although Rajamouli is hailed for his impressive stories and amazing outputs, he has often missed his initially announced release dates due to the scale of his productions. But with Varanasi, he is expected to change that perception too by making his movie land on the announced date itself.
According to the sources, the Rajamouli and his team have completed 90%+ of the shoot, with Mahesh Babu's major portions already being wrapped. As of now, only a crucial introduction scene is left for Mahesh Babu. On the other hand, even dubbing, editing, BGM & VFX works are progressing simultaneously at a rapid pace.
Already the main antagonist of this movie, Prithviraj Sukumaran wrapped up his shoot a couple of months ago and even the lead actress Priyanka Chopra also completed her part. So, the makers are expected to complete the shoot by this October and then proceed with international promotions and post-production work. As the movie belongs to a fantasy adventure with mythological and futuristic elements genre, it needs a few months completely for the graphics work.
So, Rajamouli will now have an ample time to complete the VFX works on time. Coming to the casting details of this movie, Mahesh Babu as Rudra, Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini and Prithvi Raj Kukumaran as Kumba were officially revealed during the title announcement event.
And coming to the plot, some state that it is the modern-age war between Rudra, believed to represent Lord Rama and Kumbha, a character reportedly inspired by Kumbhakarna, from Ramayana. So, their chase for something precious is going to the main story of this plot. Even Prakash Raj is essaying a prominent role in this movie.
According to the sources, this movie is being made with a whopping budget of Rs 1400 crores as the narrative moves across multiple yugas straight from Treta Yuga to Kali Yuga and spans across multiple continents straight from Asia, Africa to Antarctica.
This magnum opus is scheduled to hit the theatres on 7th April, 2027.
