“My Solitary Chorus” is an autobiographical account of a rare model of a pragmatic philosopher - Dr Amrutha Latha. Originally written by her in Telugu titled as “ Naa Ekantha Brunda Gaanam”, this book is an English translation, very adroitly done by the translator, P Sri Rama Murthy.

Amrutha Latha has authored many books, published journals, taught in schools, and established many educational institutions accessible to the people in and around Nizamabad.

How with great endurance and firm conviction, she has braved the daunting challenges that punctuated the course of life right from her school days down to this seventh decade of her life, the book is illustrative of how a small girl with a strong will fought her way through the typical obstacles in the social system that are as varied as they are chronic – all stemming from the taproot of gender discrimination. A writer from budding childhood, she has many other facets to her personality – a novelist, a social analyst, an educationist, and a philanthropist. All self-made. And those were not just peripheral interests.

A writer is said to reveal himself through his writings. After reading this book, “My Solitary Chorus” one will know how beautifully true it is; and what humane stuff Dr. Amrutha Latha is made of; what level of grit and determination it takes to traverse the vast landscape of life which has legacy, rich treasures of literature, social and familial responsibilities, unexpected pains and pleasures et al.

As a self-made personality, Amrutha Latha has been the source of great inspiration for her colleagues, students, employees, readers and co-writers. Interestingly, her humanist ideology is complemented by staunch religiosity, as is manifest in the complex of the Apurupa Venkateswara Swamy Temple Complex that materialized from her exclusive conception which proves that Divinity is but an elevated level of humanity. In her life was an epiphanous sequence of events that enriched her pragmatic ideology with divine spirituality, as is manifest in the Apurupa Venkateswara Swamy Temple Complex which she built that stands as a monumental piece of faith and blessings, that gets thronged by innumerable devotees far and wide.

The book accounts a rich, bitter-sweet assortment of obstacles and opportunities, aspersions and accolades, frustrations and accomplishments characteristic of human life. And it is the chronicle of a life that has been actually lived out rather than imagined, and, for that sole reason, should be a source of motivation for the readers to inculcate endurance and resilience.

The book carries many photographs as she reminisces about people and events that shaped her exemplary life.

This is a mosaic of aesthetically presented memoirs bringing the writer and the reader into a cushioning of togetherness on a journey through the words, written straight from the heart. The book invites you to reflect, be inspired and, most importantly, be moved by the myriad facets of human emotions.

From the drama and poignancy contained in it, the present book seems fictional, but it is far from it; it is about the thorny path of life that has been traversed with focus, determination and self-faith, finally reaching the pinnacle of varied accomplishments. What arrests the sensation and sensibility of the reader is its palpable, life-like quality and feel.

Inevitably, it arouses and strengthens the heroic traits of empathy, endurance and resilience. A must-read book!
