Comments on social media reflect their mindset: Vidya Malavade
Actress Vidya Malavade has spoken about the toxic culture surrounding social media trolling and how comments about appearance, weight and personal decisions can affect women. However, she feels that the comments show more about the person making them rather than the target.
“I do not consider everyone else’s opinion when creating my character. Whether positive or negative comments are made, it really shows a persons mentality,” said the Chak De ! India actress.
“It’s their issue what they want to write about me,” she said. Vidya said actress Richa Chadha had this same attitude. She had said you shouldn’t allow comments from strangers on the Internet affect your peace of mind. “It really is their opinion and shouldn’t affect how much you value yourself as a person.”
Although, the actress is concerned about the toxic nature of trolling online. It is very harsh for women who are going through difficult times. To criticise women who have recently had a baby or are going through bodily and emotional changes is not kind.
“It’s very toxic behaviour and we should consider how our comments affect people before writing them. This brings light to the pressure actress face in modern times,” she said.
Vidya has branched out into micro-drama with Scam 2024 - The Digital Arrest Story.
The thriller stars Sandeep Aurora, Priyanshi Tripathi, Puja Jha, Ayushi Tyagi, Shital Tejwani, Ashok K. Jha and Yogesh Pawar. The series is available to stream on the Story TV App. Vidya’s comments have brought attention to the responsibility we should take when using social media, body-shaming and kindness.
