Coronavirus in India: A total of 1,700 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected across 23 states and Union Territories so far, out of which 639 have recovered or migrated, according to the Union health ministry's data updated on Monday.

Maharashtra has recorded the maximum number of 510 cases, followed by Delhi (351), Kerala (156), Gujarat (136), Tamil Nadu (121) and Rajasthan (120).

India's Covid tally rose to 3,49,22,882 with 33,750 fresh cases, while the active cases increased to 1,45,582, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The death toll climbed to 4,81,893 with 123 more fatalities, the data showed.

Coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh reported 122 fresh cases taking the total tally to 20,77,608 cases across the state. While coming to fatalities, two new deaths registered in the last twenty four hours with one in Visakhapatnam taking total toll to 14,498.

Coronavirus in Telangana: Even as no new cases of the Omicron variant were recorded in Telangana on Monday, the number of Covid-19 cases recorded a major jump with cases going up from 274 on Sunday to 482 within 24 hours. Also the numbers breached the 400 mark for the first time in the last two months. The total tally of Omicron cases currently stands at 84, while that of Omicron recovered patients is 37 so far.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) recorded 294 new cases on Monday while neighbouring Medchal Malkajgiri recorded 48 cases, Ranga Reddy recorded 55 and Sanga Reddy recorded 3 new cases. Outside of Hyderabad city and its outskirts, Mahabubabad with 18 new cases recorded the highest number of cases outside of GHMC limits.

    66 passengers onboard Mumbai-Goa cruise ship test positive for Covid

    Out of the nearly 2,000 passengers travelling onboard a Mumbai-Goa luxury cruiseliner, 66 have tested positive for Covid, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Monday.

    The minister also said that four persons across the state have tested positive for Omicron, taking the total count of Omicron cases in the coastal state to five.

    South Korea on Monday confirmed its first two deaths linked to the Omicron COVID-19 variant amid rising worry about the highly transmissible variant.

    Two people in their 90s, who had been hospitalized at a nursing hospital in Gwangju, about 330 km south of Seoul, posthumously tested positive for the variant, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).
