Amaravati: The World Heart Day 2026 poster of Kurnool Heart Foundation (KHF) was unveiled on Thursday by chief secretary G Sai Prasad a the Secretariat here, highlighting the need for greater public awareness, prevention and early detection of cardiovascular diseases.

Prof Pulala Chandrasekhar, vice-chancellor, Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and founder secretary of Kurnool Heart Foundation and T Sai Sudheer, registrar, Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, participated in the programme. Prof Suryaprabha, director, research, was also present.

Kurnool Heart Foundation was established in September 2002, with Sai Prasad the then district collector of Kurnool, as its founder president and Prof Pulala Chandrasekhar as its founder secretary.

Since 2003, Kurnool Heart Foundation has been regularly observing World Heart Day, carrying forward a sustained campaign to promote preventive cardiology and public awareness about heart disease. The Foundation has consistently emphasised that prevention, identification of risk factors, regular health checks and timely intervention are crucial in reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Pulala Chandrasekhar said that cardiovascular diseases remain a major cause of mortality and that greater emphasis must be placed on prevention rather than waiting for heart disease to manifest at an advanced stage. Awareness, timely diagnosis, lifestyle modification and access to quality healthcare can make a major difference in protecting heart health.

Sai Sudheer, registrar, Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, underscored the importance of taking the message of preventive heart care beyond hospitals and educational institutions and reaching families and communities.

World Heart Day is observed globally on September 29 to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases and promote better heart health. The theme for World Heart Day 2026 is ‘Don’t Miss a Beat’.
