Amaravati: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha on Sunday reviewed cyclone preparedness with officials of the State Disaster Management Authority and directed the entire government machinery to remain on high alert in view of Cyclone Murasu warning.
Emphasising the need for advance precautions to prevent inconvenience to public amid successive cyclones, she instructed all departments to work in close coordination and ensure effective disaster response.
The Minister advised people in coastal districts to remain vigilant on Monday and Tuesday, as heavy to extremely heavy rainfall was likely under the influence of Cyclone Murasu. She said all departments should be prepared to tackle the cyclone with the same efficiency demonstrated during Cyclone Arnab.
Anitha directed officials to establish 24-hour emergency control rooms in all potentially affected districts and continuously monitor the situation. She also instructed them to position State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams in vulnerable districts well in advance.
The Minister ordered officials to identify people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as those residing in dilapidated houses, and shift them immediately to safer locations.
She cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea and urged public not to ignore official warnings. Special control teams should be kept ready to promptly remove fallen trees and electricity poles from major roads to ensure the movement of emergency services, she said.
Officials from Police, Fire Services, Revenue, Municipal Administration and Energy departments were instructed to remain available at field level and respond effectively to emergencies.
The Home Minister asked people in cyclone-prone areas to report their grievances and urgent requirements through the Mana Mitra WhatsApp number 9552300009. For emergency assistance and information, people can contact State Disaster Management Authority through helpline numbers 112, 1070 and 18004250101.
Anitha stressed that advance precautions, relief operations and public safety must remain the top priorities in minimising the cyclone impact.
