Everyone living on this land must respect it: CM
Bengaluru: “Everyoneliving on this land must respect its laws and uphold the dignity of the land. If we live on this land, we must respect it. The law is equal for everyone,” said Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
Speaking to the media at various locations in Bengaluru on Sunday, Shivakumar was responding to questions about the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) observing ‘Black Day’ in Belagavi.”Neither Kannadigas nor Marathi-speaking people should take the law into their own hands. Everyone residing on this land must respect its dignity,” he said. He cautioned Kannada organisations against targeting IT companies or engaging in attacks, stating that taking the law into one’s own hands was unacceptable.
“There is no room for moral policing. The government and the police department are there to address such issues. If anyone has a complaint or grievance, bring it to the government’s notice. The police will take action as per the law,” he said. The Chief Minister also said that instructions had already been issued to withdraw cases registered against Kannada activists.”
I have already instructed officials to withdraw all cases against you. The files are being prepared. The government has decided that activists should be relieved of such cases. However, if you resort to such activities again, the police may raise objections to withdrawing the cases. Therefore, I request you not to take the law into your own hands and to cooperate with the government,” he appealed.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to protecting the Kannada language and the people of Karnataka, Shivakumar said the government would discharge this responsibility and urged everyone not to violate the law or create unnecessary problems. Responding to a question about the Congress-led protest in Delhi, Shivakumar said the right to vote was as important as the right to live.”The right to vote is like the right to life. In a democratic country, the votes of lakhs of people have been systematically deleted. It is our duty to ensure that every voter in the country enjoys the right to vote. The party working to protect democracy is committed to safeguarding the rights of every voter. The protest being organised in Delhi will be successful. Protecting every voter’s right is the responsibility of all of us,” he said.
He further alleged that irregularities had taken place in Karnataka, with the names of lakhs of voters deliberately removed from electoral rolls.”
Everyone knows how irregularities were carried out in Karnataka. The names of lakhs of voters were deliberately deleted from the electoral rolls. Our fight against this injustice will continue,” the Chief Minister said.
