Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengaluru on November 15 to inaugurate the much-awaited elevated stretch of Namma Metro’s Pink Line, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has announced.
The 7.5-km elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere underwent the statutory safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) from October 6 to 8. The route has now received the final safety clearance. With the opening of this stretch, Bengaluru Metro’s total network will expand from 96.1 km to 103.6 km.
Expressing happiness over the safety approval, Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the elevated section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere had received official clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety.
“After continuous efforts, the route has finally received safety approval. We are fully prepared to open it for public service as soon as the Union Government finalises the inauguration date. We are looking forward to commissioning this stretch of the Pink Line at the earliest. This will be another significant step towards expanding the Namma Metro network and providing better services to commuters. Several works are still pending in the subsequent phases, and we remain committed to completing the project at the earliest,” the Minister said.
Meanwhile, speaking about the state’s drought situation, Shivakumar said the government would wait until November 1 for an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister. If an appointment was not available before then, the state would seek an opportunity to meet him during his Bengaluru visit.
“We will request the Prime Minister to spare time to meet an all-party delegation when he visits Bengaluru. We will once again appeal to him to release drought relief funds to the state,” Shivakumar said. He also said that the process of verifying bank accounts to ensure drought compensation reaches eligible farmers was underway and that necessary orders had already been issued.
