Beggars have become a nuisance for the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) staff at the historic Golconda Fort. In spite of several appeals and complaints to the local police station, the beggar menace is prevalent. Officials say that the moment the ASI objects, locals team up and support the beggars. The Superintending Archaeologist of ASI Hyderabad Circle, Milan Kumar Chauley, said, “A number of representations have been given but to no avail. It is very embarrassing as tourists find it irritating.” At any given point of time there are at least 10-15 beggars at the entrance. Triparna Ray, a tourist from Kolkata said, “I paid Rs 10 to a beggar but soon few more came and demanded money.”
