Golconda: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Monday cleaned and fenced the mosque inside the Golconda fort, following hue and cry over alleged desecration of the structure which has religious and archaeological importance.

The higher officials jumped into action and cleaned and cordoned off the entire area considered to be part of the one of the mosques within the fort. A temporary fencing was installed and the ASI is likely to erect boards highlighting the importance of the place in the coming days. Politicians and local activists have requested the ASI and police officials to ensure that youth taking part in the festivities like Bonalu are well-informed about the importance and sanctity of the places within the historic fort of Golconda.

It may be mentioned here that social media was abuzz on Sunday with pictures of youth who had gathered at the mosque. Some of them were seen playing cards and drinking alcohol. Most of them were unaware of the sanctity of the structure. Some of the politicians and activists have questioned the ASI silence in controlling the large gathering and protection of its interests like the historical structures.
