Tarnaka: Professor Gali Vinod Kumar said that the United Nations formulated 54 rights for children on November 20, 1989, and HRC guide teachers need to educate children on the basic rights provided to them. He was speaking at an awareness meeting for HRC guide teachers held here at ICSSR hall.

Addressing guide teachers, he said that India has guaranteed four basic rights to children: right to live, right to be protected from being abused, right to develop, and right to get equal opportunities and facilities. He said that all the children need to be aware of their rights.

Only when they are aware of the rights can they lead free and independent life, he added. It is the responsible of every citizen and governments to ensure that all the 42 crore children in India need to get equal opportunities and develop, he said. With the enactment of free mandatory education bill in 2019, it has become mandatory for the governments to provide free and quality education to children through government schools, he said.

Amnesty International India national coordinator Raji, program coordinator Susie, HRC state coordinator S Ambedkar, HRC regional coordinator G Parushuram, HRC staff Ashok, Sumathi, Peter, Srilatha, and teachers from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh participated in the meeting.
