Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has disposed of 5,300 metric tons of animal waste during the Bakrid festival in Greater Hyderabad.

As part of the Bakrid festival arrangements, GHMC has taken special measures to eliminate biological waste in various parts of the city at a cost of Rs 2.43 crore. In the last three days, 3.69 lakh black covers were distributed exclusively for waste disposal.

This time bio-degradable bags were distributed in some areas as pilot projects on the occasion of Bakrid. In addition, 22 JCBs, 32 mini tippers and 1,85,000 black covers were distributed to 22 police stations in the city.

GHMC Commissioner said that 5,300 metric tonnes of garbage was disposed of on Tuesday evening. The waste has been shifted to the Jawahar Nagar dump yard, he said.

The Commissioner also said that a special staff has been appointed to remove the garbage on roads from time to time as Bakrid celebrates the festival for another two days. He added that the total volume of this waste would increase further.
