Hyderabad: Stressing on the importance of the ‘golden hour’, the neurology and critical care experts said that the persons with brain stroke should be shifted to the hospital within one hour so that proper treatment can be provided and lives can be saved.
Experts including Continental Hospital Senior Neurosurgeon Dr KV Shivanand Reddy, Apollo Financial District Critical Care Dr VS Pavan Kumar, KIMS –Sunshine Hospital, Begumpet Senior Consultant Neurophysician Dr SC Niveditha and Ramdevrao Hospital Care Convoy Rehabilitation Chief Consultant Emergency Medicine Dr Swathi Reddy, Yashoda Hospitals Pediatric Neurologist Dr Mohd Anas participated in the panel discussion on ‘Brain Stroke Trauma and Rehabilitation’ in the HMTV Health Conclave at Vishweshwaraiah Bhavan on Saturday.

“The brain stroke patients should be brought to the hospital within one hour. We can start treatment and give clot medicine within three hours time. The better the patients are brought early,” said Dr Niveditha. Dr Swathi said that if the patients are brought immediately, the damage will be limited. If there is a delay, coming back to normal life will be difficult. Talking on the injuries to children, Dr Anas said parents don’t believe that there are pediatric strokes. Stroke can come even with vasculature inflammatory. With correct rehabilitation they can improve much faster.
Dr Shivanand said that brain stroke affects the entire family. He said that people don’t know the rehabilitation mechanism.
Dr Pavan Kumar said that during the emergency the stress on doctors increased 100 times. The first thing they see is ABC- air, breathing and circulation. “If the people in the ambulance can see whether the patient is able to breathe. If there is no time delay, the patient has more chances of recovery,” said Dr Pavan.
