BRS-BJP covert pact behind SIR silence: TPCC chief
In Short
Mahesh Kumar Goud questions KCR’s reluctance to take on BJP, alleges 90 lakh votes face deletion

TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B Mahesh Kumar Goud has alleged that the Congress suspects the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is maintaining silence on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls due to a covert understanding with the BJP and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Mahesh Kumar Goud questioned why BRS leaders were not staging protests against the ongoing electoral roll revision process. He asked why BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao was seemingly reluctant to confront the BJP, alleging that the silence had raised suspicions about a possible understanding between the two parties.
The TPCC chief claimed that around 90 lakh votes in Telangana were facing deletion for various reasons and alleged that the SIR process in the state was being conducted with malicious intent. He asserted that the Congress would work to protect every eligible voter and oppose any attempt to undermine people's democratic rights.
Mahesh Kumar Goud said the electoral revision process had been conducted fairly during the tenures of former Chief Election Commissioners TN Seshan, JM Lyngdoh and other officials, including Krishnamurthy. He questioned the manner in which the current exercise was being carried out and expressed concern over the potential impact on eligible voters.
He stated that the Congress had been working intensively on the SSR issue for the past year and would continue to raise concerns over alleged irregularities. He also claimed that Telangana and Punjab could be the BJP's next targets in its electoral strategy.
