Hyderabad: GHMC is taking various measures to tackle the problem of water logging points in the city, said GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore here today.

Addressing the media, the Commissioner has informed that 495 monsoon teams from various departments were pressed into service. For better utilization of these teams, GPS are being provided to these vehicles and they can pressed in service by identifying their location.

Around 120 locations identified as water logging points. And they are categorized as A, B and C. At the A categorized locations water pumps arranged permanently at these places and one assistant engineer is kept in-charge to manage water is pumped out. At the A, B, and C categorised locations, the motor pumps are kept at hereby places like Community Halls, Schools and Government Buildings etc and the designated officials ensure water is pumped out with the man power.

One official (DMC, AMOH or AMC) is designated as of location in-charge area of 1/2 sq km radius and he will visit the area well in advance of one hour before rain occurs and ensure all catch pits and manholes are free from blocking from tree leaves, construction debris and plastic waste so that the rain water easily flow into the drains.

These designated officers regularly visit their respective allotted areas and ensure the catch pits and manholes and also inspect nearby drains, tanks and ensure they are not blocked by plastic, construction and debris material. Identifying the open places nearby water-logging points and converting them into percolation tanks by diverting the water into it.

Ensure free flow of traffic at SRDP works. A special drive has been taken up to remove construction and debris material by allotting one vehicle to each of 150 wards.

There are altogether 495 monsoon teams from various department pressed into service. For better utilisation of these teams, GPS devices are being provided to their vehicles and they can be pressed into service by identifying their location.
