Bala Nagar (ward no.120) under Kukatpally Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) circle, is a commercial hub with a combination of industries and go-downs as well as wholesale and retail markets. The area with a total of 42,899 voters is famous for industrial supplies and is known countrywide. The major problems of the residents of Bala Nagar are internal roads, hanging electric wires and drinking water supply.

The internal roads are narrow in size creating traffic snarls as vehicles find it difficult to commute smoothly, particularly in colonies like Vinayak Nagar, where heavy vehicles enter and choke the narrow roads. Ramaiah, a resident of Bala Nagar said, "As the internal roads are too narrow here, we see regular traffic jams when heavy vehicles enter.

Adding to it, the ongoing Bala Nagar flyover construction works are also the cause of traffic problems for the locals and commuters." The residents have been complaining of irregular and short duration of water supply mainly in areas like Sanjeevaiah Nagar. The drinking water supply on alternate days and that too for a short period of time is not enough for a day. The residents are forced to pay to buy drinking water bottles or make alternative arrangements.

"The loosely hanging electric wires pose a grave danger to the residents and the commuters. These wires left hanging randomly can be witnessed in most of the areas," said Suresh, a resident of Bala Nagar. Also, with sanitation workers not picking up garbage regularly, piles of domestic waste is seen littered in open and in garbage bins.

This creates unhygienic conditions with foul smell emanating and the area turning into a breeding ground for roaches, insects and mosquitoes. The nala passing through the locality is choked with garbage and construction material disposed into it resulting in unbearable malodorous smell encompassing the nearby localities and increase in mosquito menace, said Ramesh, a resident of Sanjeevaiah Nagar.

In the last elections, Kandoori Narender of TRS was elected as the corporator of Bala Nagar. According to locals, there are a few pending works and many promises are yet to be fulfilled.
