Hyderabad: In the wake of reports that TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy will contest as MP from Nalgonda Parliamentary constituency, TRS supremo and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao started scouting for a strong leader from his party to pit against the Captain.

Considering the strong presence of the Congress in the seven assembly segments of the Nalgonda Lok Sabha segment, KCR is also vying the option of contesting himself from the constituency, if the situation so warranted.

Among the seven assembly segments which comes under the jurisdiction of Nalgionda, Congress had won one assembly seat of Huzurnagar represented by Uttam in the just-concluded elections. TRS won the rest of the six assembly segments. A TRS leader said that the ruling KCR shortlisted the names of T Chinnapa Reddy, P Rajeshwara Reddy, P Srinivas Reddy and Chada Kishan Reddy and MLC K Prabhakar to fight the Nalgonda election.

The TRS supremo is analysing the political scenario since Uttam holds a strong grip in Kodad, Huzurnagar, Suryapet and parts of Miryalaguda assembly constituency. The TRS is making all-out efforts to win the crucial MP seat as part of the target set to clinch 16 out of 17 seats in Telangana and play a crucial role in the national politics. Rajeshwar Reddy lost to Congress candidate G Sukhendar Reddy by a margin of nearly 2 lakh votes in 2014 elections.

After the elections, Sukhendar switched loyalties to KCR. Chinnapa Reddy was defeated in the biennial elections to Nalgonda graduate constituency. Kishan Reddy is maintaining good following in some assembly segments but not that much popularity maintained by Uttam. The plan to field the BC leader Prabhakar in the Reddy-dominated Lok Sabha segment did not draw much enthusiasm from the TRS cadre.

KCR instructed the local party leadership to submit a report on the TRS weakness and strengths and the best choice among the above-mentioned leaders to contest from Nalgonda. As Plan B, it is not ruled out that KCR himself will jump into the fray.
