Mayor's call to use only clay idols of Ganesha

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Thursday asked the citizens to use clay to make environment-friendly Ganesh idols.
To encourage the use of clay Ganesha idols, Mayor, Commissioner M Dana Kishore, zonal commissioners launched an initiative to protect environment in a programme at GHMC office in the presence of Daivagna Sharma here on Thursday.
Rammohan said that lakes and ponds would get polluted due to the immersion of Ganesh idols made from Plaster of Paris; so, people should purchase or make Ganesh idols made of clay.
Zonal commissioners Shankaraiah, Srinivas Reddy, Mamata, Chief engineers Suresh, Ziauddin and others were present at the occasion.
