Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Wednesday sanctioned over Rs 1,108 crore for the development of Sri Omkareshwara Swamy Temple at Manchirevula and improved connectivity to the temple as part of the Musi Riverfront Development project.
Of the sanctioned amount, over Rs 948 crore has been earmarked for the development of the temple complex, while Rs 159.62 crore has been proposed for a six-lane approach and connectivity road.
The State government has taken up the Musi Rejuvenation Project as a major urban development initiative, focusing on cultural and spiritual tourism as well as public infrastructure along the Musi River.
The proposed temple precinct will comprise the main Sri Omkareshwara Swamy Temple along with sub-shrines dedicated to Sri Veerabhadra and Bhadrakali, Sri Lalitha Maha Tripurasundari Devi, Sri Bala Ganapathy Swamy and Sri Bala Subramanya Swamy. It will also include a Maha Mandapam, Nandi Mandapam, Prakarams, Raja Gopurams, Yagasala, Pushkarini, an iconic Shiva statue and other religious facilities.
According to officials, the preliminary estimate puts the cost of temple architectural works at Rs 598.98 crore, while civil and structural works, including MEP and associated facilities, are estimated at Rs 349.67 crore.
Musi Riverfront Development Corporation (MRDCL) Managing Director EV Narsimha Reddy said a 30-metre (100-foot) wide six-lane HMDA master-plan road has been proposed from Istana Villas to Keerthi West Wind Villas at Manchirevula.
The approximately 2.50-km road will connect the temple complex, adjoining Greyhounds lands and Young India Police School with the Musi Riverfront road network. The preliminary cost includes pavement, drainage, retaining and protection works, culverts, lighting, road-safety measures and other associated infrastructure.
