Rajendranagar: Only a day after the Sanitary Wing of GHMC Rajendranagar took out awareness rallies in areas under its control to educate people about the harmful effects of littering their surroundings, the situation remained the same on the ground.

"In the absence of a carrot or stick approach, all the efforts to turn Rajendranagar a litter-free area will remain a dream. The uncouth will not mend their ways until and unless the authority uses a punitive approach against them," said Mujahid Mohiuddin, a resident of Rajendranagar.

The GHMC sanitary wing on Thursday, took out rallies in Shastripuram and Mailardevpally divisions after the throwing of garbage in open in these areas became rampant. Sanitary wing ropedin local schools to ensure their students participate in the rallies to educate local denizens about the harmful effects of littering in the surroundings.

However, within a few hours, all the efforts of the GHMC sanitary wing to bring civic sense among people, especially the uncouth, turned out to bea complete fiasco with open plots within every few meters were seen full with heaps of garbage on Friday morning.

With this, it becomes clear that there are no takers of 'Saaf Hyderabad Shaandaar Hyderabad' theme, initiated by the GHMC to make the city completely litter-free.'

"This shows the uncouth are not ready to mend their habit of littering their surroundings with the awareness rallies and using of legal stick seems to be the only solution to the problem," said Mir Mushtaq Ahmed, a resident of Shastripuram Colony.
