Hyderabad: Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy and former Minister Konda Surekha stayed away from the Congress party’s ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme held in the national capital on Sunday.

More than 5,000 representatives from Telangana, including Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other party leaders, participated in the event. TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud was also present.

IT Minister D Sridhar Babu too did not attend the programme as he remained in his Manthani constituency to welcome Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji, head of the Avadhoota Datta Peetham. The Minister had personally invited the Swamiji, who participated in spiritual programmes at Dhanwada and Manthani on Sunday.

Konda Surekha, who has maintained a low profile since her removal from the Cabinet and recently expressed regret to BRS working president KT Rama Rao, once again stayed away from the party programme.

Rajgopal Reddy, who has been at odds with the government over a road contract issue, was busy with various programmes in his constituency. He inaugurated the new building of the Sri Beerappa Sheep Rearers’ Cooperative Society, affiliated with the Kuruma community, at Ghattuppal mandal headquarters and planted a sapling on the premises.

Speaking on the occasion, he remarked that having a good reputation often led to an increase in the number of enemies, adding that society had become intolerant towards goodness. He called upon people to work together for Munugode’s development, describing himself as a simple grassroots worker.

Earlier, interacting with local people, the MLA reiterated his commitment to constituency development and announced a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal liquor outlets, popularly known as belt shops. He warned police personnel that strict action would be taken if such outlets continued to operate in villages.

A video of his phone conversation with a Sub-Inspector, shared on his Facebook account, has gone viral on social media. In the video, he directed the officer to identify those involved in illegal liquor sales across 19 gram panchayats and submit a list by November 10. He reportedly warned that police personnel who failed to curb the illegal trade had no place in the constituency.

Rajgopal Reddy also called for changes in politics and the administrative system to ensure justice for the poor. Alleging widespread corruption in government offices, he stressed that public representatives must work honestly.

Targeting the BRS, he accused the previous government led by K Chandrashekar Rao of pushing Telangana into a debt trap through excessive borrowing in the name of development and projects.
