Karimnagar: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar began an 11-day Bhavani Deeksha at Sri Mahashakti Temple in Karimnagar on Friday, performing special pujas after wearing the sacred mala in the presence of Vedic scholars.

The minister donned red attire and received the blessings of priests before offering prayers to the Goddess. He will observe the deeksha until Dussehra, staying at the temple and participating in the service of the deity. People wishing to meet him over various issues will be received in a specially arranged tent at the temple premises.

Meanwhile, the temple has been decorated with lights and other arrangements for the upcoming Navaratri celebrations, which are scheduled to begin on October 11. Special spiritual and cultural programmes are being organised for devotees.

With Friday drawing large numbers of Bhavani deeksha devotees and worshippers, the temple witnessed a steady flow of visitors. Arrangements have been made to ensure a peaceful darshan, with facilities for worshippers to rest and participate in the celebrations without inconvenience.

The temple management has also organised free prasadam, breakfast and lunch for devotees, including those observing the deeksha. Food arrangements are being made for around 5,000 to 10,000 people daily during the festivities.

The Sri Mahashakti Temple was consecrated 16 years ago. In its early years, only a small group, including members of Bandi Sanjay’s family, observed the Bhavani deeksha during Navaratri. The number of devotees has since grown considerably, with thousands of young people taking the Durga mala in recent years.

Devotees observe the deeksha for different durations, including nine days, a mandala period or 108 days, with the common aim of seeking the Goddess’s blessings and expressing their faith.
