Suryapet: When government schoolteacher, Rajarao was transferred to the school here, it had only nine students. Determined to increase enrolment, he spent an additional hour every day visiting the homes of children studying in private schools.

He explained the educational standards and future opportunities available to students and gradually succeeded in gaining the confidence of parents.

The schoolteacher, who hails from Sarvaram village in Garidepally mandal of Suryapet district, has won hearts of villagers through his dedication to his profession and efforts to strengthen the local government school.

Rajarao also motivated village elders and local youth to support the government school. Impressed by his commitment, parents began enrolling their children in the school. As a result, the student strength has now increased from just nine to 112.

With the support of donors, Rajarao also improved facilities at the school by arranging a dining hall, chairs, notebooks and school bags for students. He engaged a special trainer to prepare students for cultural programmes and competitive examinations.

His sustained efforts to improve education and provide better opportunities for children have earned him appreciation from both villagers and students, making him a role model for other teachers.

With the encouragement of Mandal Education Officer (MEO) Chatru Naik, the school has now earned the distinction of having the highest student enrolment among primary schools in the mandal.
