Nellore:The district administration has sounded a high alert across Nellore district following severe weather warnings regarding Cyclone Murasu, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and destructive winds reaching speeds up to 120 kmph along the coastal belt.

District Collector Himanshu Shukla issued a statement on Sunday urging residents to maintain extreme vigilance and adopt all necessary precautionary measures. According to meteorological forecasts, the cyclone is expected to cross the coast between Kavali and Kandukur between the evening and midnight of November 2, with heavy precipitation continuing through the afternoon of November 3.

The Collector highlighted that the storm’s impact will stretch from Gudur to Nellore city and Kavali town. Residents living in low-lying areas, thatched huts, and weak mud structures have been advised to move to designated relief shelters arranged by the administration.

Fishermen have been strictly prohibited from venturing into the sea until further notice due to turbulent ocean conditions.

All government departments have been placed on round-the-clock alert to maintain uninterrupted essential services and prevent loss of life and property. The Animal Husbandry Department has been tasked with protecting livestock, while the public has been warned against stepping outdoors or approaching electric poles and snapped power lines during heavy rains.

To provide immediate emergency assistance, a 24-hour helpline control room has been operationalized at the District Collectorate.
