Tirumala police intensify security measures ahead of Brahmotsavams

Tirumala: Tirumala police and security agencies have stepped up preparedness for the annual Srivari Brahmotsavams by conducting a joint awareness programme on fire safety, bomb detection and emergency response at Tirumala on Monday.
The programme was held at the Asthana Mandapam under the leadership of Tirumala DSP Vijaya Sekhar. Police personnel, TTD Vigilance and Security staff, including AVSOs, Health Department employees and staff from other allied departments took part in the session. Fire Services personnel explained the precautions to be taken during fire accidents, the proper use of firefighting equipment and the steps to be followed during emergencies.
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Team explained how to identify suspicious objects, the safety measures to be followed and the use of disposal equipment. A demonstration was also conducted as part of the programme.
Meanwhile, Tirumala police have started verifying the details and backgrounds of workers employed at shops, hotels, restaurants, mutts, guest houses and other commercial establishments ahead of the Brahmotsavams. Police are checking the details of both existing workers and those who have recently joined various establishments.
Personal and identification details are being verified, while the antecedents of workers are being checked against police records to identify any previous criminal history. District SP L Subba Rayudu said the safety of devotees was the priority and appealed to all establishments and workers to cooperate with the police.
Police have also asked people to contact Dial-112 immediately if they notice any suspicious person or activity in Tirumala. They said the identity of those providing information would be kept confidential.
