Vijayawada: Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada has earned Rs 2,08,92,285 through hundi collections. The average hundi collection was Rs 14,92,234. The hundis were opened, and the offerings were counted at the Mallikarjuna Maha Mandapam on Wednesday in the presence of Temple Trust Board Chairman Borra Radhakrishna (Gandhi) and Executive Officer VK Seena Naik.
The temple received 203 grams of gold and 2.674 kg of silver ornaments offered by devotees. The hundis also contained foreign currency offered by NRIs and devotees from various countries.
The offerings included 192 US dollars, 16 Malaysian ringgit, 40 UAE dirhams, 20 Egyptian pounds, 10 euros, 80 British pounds, 1.5 Omani rials, 151 Saudi riyals, 12 Qatari riyals, 300 Omani baisa, 115 Canadian dollars and 20 Australian dollars.
Temple officials said the hundi counting process was conducted smoothly under security provided by Andhra Pradesh Special Police Force (APSP) personnel and One Town police.
