Vijayawada: Lanka Dinakar, chairman of the 20-Point Programme (Viksit Bharat–Swarna AP) Implementation has welcomed the taxpayer-friendly recommendations of the 57th GST Council meeting held on October 8, describing them as a significant step towards improving ease of doing business.

Dinakar said the proposed reforms marked a shift from enforcement-centric taxation towards trust-based compliance, transparency and taxpayer facilitation. Key measures include removing arrest provisions, raising the prosecution threshold from Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore, reducing the general penalty from Rs 25,000 to Rs 10,000 and limiting low-value litigation through a proposed Rs 10,000 threshold for show-cause notices. He said faster refunds, expanded input tax credit provisions, intelligence-based transit inspections and simplified GST registration for eligible small e-commerce sellers would benefit MSMEs, startups, traders and entrepreneurs.
