Two biometric token machines and a drone camera set up at Visakhapatnam Railway Station
Visakhapatnam: In a step towards regulating the flow of passengers and improving surveillance, the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway installed two biometric token machines and commissioned a drone camera at Visakhapatnam railway station.
On Saturday, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Chetan Kumar Shrivastava commissioned the facilities in the presence of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, Jitendra Kumar Shrivastava.
The biometric token system (BTS) is a system by which passengers travelling in the general coach are given a token on a first-come-first-served basis in advance after accepting biometric information of individual passengers. The data thus captured will be stored with the authorities for a year.
Speaking on the occasion, the DRM said that using a biometric token system will be helpful to streamline the rush at general coaches, prevent crime and detect cases effectively.
Jitendra Kumar Shrivastava said the data collected will be used to analyse crowd patterns and the system will be implemented for eight originating trains, including Godavari, Ratnachal, Janmabhoomi, Simhadri, Tirumala and Korba express.
