Arrested MLCs must be released unconditionally: Singireddy

Wanaparthy: Demanding unconditional release of arrested BRS MLCs Tata Madhu and Naveen Reddy, former minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy staged a protest at Ambedkar Crossroads here on Tuesday and submitted a representation—signed by women—calling for protection of democracy and constitutional values.

Reddy condemned the attack on MLAs including Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy who were proceeding to the Assembly dressed in black to protest the alleged failure of Congress to implement its six guarantees, 13 declarations, and 420 promises within the promised 100 days; he termed this violence a stain on democracy.

He questioned why it was considered wrong for the BRS to protest when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi could protest in Parliament while holding the Constitution questioned justification for preventing the MLAs from entering the House.

“It is typical of the government to block the Opposition outside fearing it would expose the government’s true colours in the Assembly,” he said.

Reddy demanded public apology from the government, stating the humiliating treatment meted out to women MLAs—despite their experience of having served as ministers twice—is reminiscent of the ‘Dussasana Parvam’. He lashed out at the CM, accusing him of murdering democracy because he could not withstand the public protests. The party would continue the agitation until an apology is offered, he warned.
