Indi Alliance steps up campaign for electoral transparency
Jayashankar Bhupalpally: Leaders and activists of the India Alliance organised a padayatra in Jayashankar Bhupalpally on Thursday, demanding transparency in electoral rolls and protection of voting rights for every eligible citizen. The programme was led by District Congress President Battu Karunakar.
The padayatra began at the Hanuman Temple and proceeded towards Ambedkar Chowk, where participants staged a protest. Raising concerns over changes and deletions in voter lists, the protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gnanesh Kumar and sought corrective action on Form-6, Form-7 and Form-8. As part of the protest, the participants burnt an effigy of the Chief Election Commissioner and raised slogans demanding transparency in the electoral process. Speaking at the programme, MLA Gandra Satyanarayana Rao said the right to vote is a fundamental right in a democracy. He called for complete transparency while adding or deleting names from voter lists. Battu Karunakar said no eligible voter should be removed from the electoral rolls unfairly and urged officials to ensure that genuine voters face no difficulties during revisions.
Leaders and activists from the Congress, CPI, CPM, CPI(ML) and TJS participated in the programme in large numbers.
