Konda Surekha calls for stronger safeguards for voting rights
Warangal: The Congress organised a padayatra in Warangal on Thursday, calling for protection of voting rights, democracy and transparency in the electoral system. The march began at Warangal Crossroads and concluded at Pochamma Maidan Junction, with former minister Konda Surekha, party leaders, former corporators and workers participating.
After the padayatra, the leaders garlanded the statue of Rani Rudrama Devi and paid tributes.
Speaking on the occasion, Surekha described the right to vote as a fundamental constitutional right and demanded a comprehensive inquiry into allegations of electoral irregularities. She also sought the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stressing the need for an impartial election process.
Congress leaders condemned the arrest of party leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, alleging that democratic voices were being suppressed. Surekha urged people to unite to safeguard voting rights and said the Congress would continue its campaign until they were protected.
