A centenarian couple passed away in a span of thirty minutes within each other's demise in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: People often speak about being with their loved ones "in life and in death," though it is not always close to reality. However, a Tamil Nadu couple over hundred years may have just lived the saying by passing away on the same day. Not just that, they passed away within thirty minutes of each other's demise.

The couple - Vetrivel (104) and Pichayi (100) were married for 80 years before they passed away. They belong to Kuppakudi village in Alangudi taluk and breathed their last in Alangudi Taluk, Pudokottai district, Tamil Nadu.

Vetrivel was rushed to the hospital because he complained of chest pain on Monday night. He was declared brought dead at the hospital. When his mortal remains were taken back home, his wife Pichayi broke down on seeing her husband of eighty years. She fainted next to her husband's dead body when the arrangements for his funeral were being made. Revival efforts did not work. When her family called the doctor, he confirmed that Pichayi had passed away, as well.

The couple is survived by five sons and one daughter. Together, they have 23 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who lived together in their ancestral house in Kuppakudi. Vetrivel was a farmer by profession. The grandchildren were adversely affected as they had lost both their grandparents on the same day.

The last time similar news was reported was in July this year, when a Georgia-based couple married for 71 years had died within a span of twelve hours from each other.
