The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued an advisory that the Cyclone Amphan is likely to get intensified by May 16 and the regions like Odisha, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar islands are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall in the next two days.

The coastal districts in the eastern part of India are also likely to see heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.

The IMD also alerted the National Disaster Response Force and the chief secretaries of eight states and Union Territories as the cyclone amphan will get intensified by tomorrow evening. While the Andaman and Nicobar islands will see the effect within 48 hours, Odisha and West Bengal might experience it on May 20, the weather department said.

The department also warned the fishermen not to venture into the south and central Bay of Bengal from tomorrow as the sea is expected to be rough. On the other hand, the National Disaster Response Authority has also released a video advising the people on the instructions that must be followed before and during the cyclone.
