Rajasthan Seals Borders With States As COVID-19 Cases Surge
Rajasthan sealed its borders with neighbouring states in the wake of rising numbers of coronavirus cases in the state.
Jaipur: Rajasthan sealed its borders with neighbouring states in the wake of rising numbers of coronavirus cases in the state. The decision was taken by chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, according to media reports. Rajasthan witnessed a sharp spike in coronavirus cases on Tuesday with Jodhpur, Jaipur and Udaipur emerging as the worst affected places in the state. The state has now reportedly increased testing to 40,000 per million as number of COVID-19 cases in the state are on the rise.
People travelling to Delhi or Uttar Pradesh from Maharashtra and Gujarat would need to pass through the state which is one of the reasons why Rajasthan has decided to seal its borders and put in a system of permissions. Both Maharashtra and Gujarat are among the worst-hit states in the country when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic situation. Rajasthan will now issue e-passes for interstate travel.
Rajasthan is among the ten most badly hit states in the country by the transmission of the coronavirus pandemic. The state has recorded 11,245 confirmed cases of COVID-19 patients with 255 deaths.
In the early days of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the Bhilwara model in the state had come in for a lot praise for the exemplary manner in which the infections were controlled in the district. However, with the pandemic spreading all over the state rapidly especially following the free movement of migrants and others, and with easing of lockdown norms, there has been a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state. This has now prompted the state government to seal its borders with neighbouring states and enforce a system of e-passes.
