Tamil Nadu CM Vijay’s London Event Cancelled After Police Raise Safety Concerns

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s scheduled public interaction in London was cancelled on Tuesday after the Metropolitan Police raised concerns about crowd safety.

Hundreds of supporters had gathered outside The Shard, one of London’s most prominent landmarks, hoping to meet the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor. Some fans reportedly waited for several hours before Vijay’s team announced that the programme would not take place.

Event Called Off Over Safety And Permission Issues

A member of Vijay’s team announced the cancellation over a loudspeaker, saying the programme had to be called off because the required police permission was not available on safety grounds.

The announcement came after a sizeable crowd assembled at the venue. The Metropolitan Police had raised concerns over managing the gathering and ensuring public safety.

Following the cancellation, Vijay’s political outfit, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), also appealed to supporters not to attempt to meet him at his hotel or wait along his travel route. The party cited the London Metropolitan Police’s request and public-safety considerations.

The cancellation disappointed several fans who had gathered at the location in anticipation of seeing Vijay.

Vijay In UK For Investment Outreach

Vijay is currently in the United Kingdom as part of a state delegation focused on attracting investments to Tamil Nadu.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the delegation has signed multiple memoranda of understanding involving investment commitments of around ₹12,300 crore during the UK visit. The proposed investments are aimed at strengthening Tamil Nadu’s position in advanced manufacturing and technology.

The projects are expected to generate more than 9,400 high-value jobs across the state, according to the government’s announcement.

A separate report from The Times of India said the wider UK visit has resulted in investment commitments of about ₹15,300 crore, including MoUs and a letter of intent.

Fans Asked Not To Wait For Vijay

After the event was cancelled, TVK’s IT wing urged supporters to avoid gathering outside the hotel where Vijay was staying or along his route.

The appeal came as authorities sought to prevent further crowding and maintain public safety during the Chief Minister’s visit.

Vijay is scheduled to conclude his UK tour and return to India on Wednesday.

The London event cancellation was linked to safety and permission concerns; the reports available so far do not indicate that Vijay himself cancelled the programme.
