Two people post comments against PM Modi on social media, get banned

Tamil Nadu: Madurai bench of Madras High Court has passed an order to restrain two people from using social media for a year. This was caused because they posted derogatory comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Muslim community as well.
Justice GR Swaminathan heard the anticipatory bail petitions filed by Mahadev from Madurai and Jabin Charles from Kanyakumari. He passed the orders on Monday after hearing the pleas. Bail was granted to the petitioners on the condition that they don't use social media for a year.
Justice GR Swaminathan condemned the petitioners' conduct. He permitted the prosecution to move to the court for cancellation of bail if the petitioners were found using social media or violating any other bail conditions.
The court directed the two petitioners to submit an affidavit in the form of an apology regretting and realising the mistake they made infront of the appropriate judicial magistrate.
The proceedings took place after Nanjil Raja, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary lodged a complaint against Charles. The formal complaint was lodged at Vadaserry police station in Kanyakumari in October. The accused had allegedly posted a morphed picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was taken during his meeting with the Chinese President Xi Jinping held at Mamallapuram recently
However, in his petition, the accused Charles said that he regretted his actions and was willing to publish an apology in the local newspaper. He said that he did not intend to tarnish the reputation of the Prime Minister.
Similar case was registered earlier this year against a 55-year-old man in Maharashtra for posting photoshopped images of Narendra Modi and Smriti Irani on social media.
He was charged for sexual harassment and spreading sexually explicit material on social media. After five complaints were registered in five police stations of Chandrapur district, he was arrested.
