Dacoits kill three of family in Basara
Three persons, including a couple of Sharadanagar in Basar, in Mudhole mandal of Adilabad district, were killed in the early hours of Saturday when suspected dacoits attacked them when they were fast asleep. The attackers escaped with valuables and the car parked in front of the house. They were also suspected to have outraged the modesty of Suvarna, wife of the family head, Ashok Swamy, as she was found without clothes.

Adilabad: Three persons, including a couple of Sharadanagar in Basar, in Mudhole mandal of Adilabad district, were killed in the early hours of Saturday when suspected dacoits attacked them when they were fast asleep. The attackers escaped with valuables and the car parked in front of the house. They were also suspected to have outraged the modesty of Suvarna, wife of the family head, Ashok Swamy, as she was found without clothes.
The incident took place near the famous Jnana Saraswati Temple. The victims were Ashok Swamy (55), his wife Suvarna (45) and son Manikanta(25). Another son, Sharat Chandra (14), who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to the government hospital, Nizamabad. A fifth class student, he was later shifted to NIMS, Hyderabad.
Ashok Swamy was running a shop near the temple selling coconuts and toys. He was said to have returned home around 9 pm after closing the shop. The couple, married in Hyderabad, had migrated to Basar in 1990. He had initially run ‘Kamadhenu’ lodge and sold it after incurring losses. Of his two daughters, one died in childhood, and the other is married into a family from Suryapet in Nalgonda district.
The attackers, who gained entry into the house through a ventilator, used ‘godkal’(sticks tied to bullock carts) in the attack, killing the three instantaneously. The victims lay lifeless in pools of blood on their cots. The incident came to light after some shop workers went to Ashok Swamy’s house, as the shop was not opened even after 8 am.
The police who reached the spot did not allow anyone into the house pending arrival of a dog squad. They said identity of the killers and their motive could be established only after investigation. Bhainsa DSP Devidas and Mudhole CI Sridhar Rao are supervising the investigation.
