AP Medical Council Chairman Dr Y Raja Rao appealed to the psychiatrists’ community to come up with suggestions to eradicate stigma associated with mental disorders. The Medical Council Chairman inaugurated the first conference of the psychiatrists of both Telangana and AP, organised by the Vijayawada Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (VIMHANS), here on Saturday.Speaking on the occasion, Raja Rao called for inclusive education, dignity of the patients, and their rehabilitation. He lauded the initiative of VIMHANS director Indla Ramasubba Reddy for creating a platform for the psychiatrists of AP and Telangana to discuss on the various psychiatric problems troubling the common man. “This is for the first time that Telugu Psycon- 2015 meet is being held in the city,” said Indla Ramasubba Reddy organising chairman. The theme of the two-day conference is ‘Psychiatry in the Modern Era’. Around 200 delegates from both Telugu states participated in the lectures held on Saturday.
The second day of the conference would focus on relevance of Bhagavad Gita in counselling and the utility of the Indian text Kamasutra in treating problems pertaining to sexual health. One of the highlights of the conference is a session titled “Manasollasam” by Telugu writer Tanikella Bharani, Reddy informed. National Psychiatrists Association president Dr G Prasad Rao, South India Psychiatrists Association president Dr K Ashok Reddy, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Psychiatrist Association president Dr P Raghu Ram Reddy, VIMHANS psychiatrist and event convener Vishal Indla and other experts were also present during the inaugural session.
