Rajamahendravaram: Come Sankranthi, it is a big fest to roadside cloth merchants to do good business. The cloth merchants would be seen from the first week of December to January 20 in connection with Christmas, New Year and Sankranthi festivals.

Shirts, jeans, saris, pants, shirts, kids wear, bed sheets, pillow covers etc are available with them for moderate rates. They bring the material from Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Punjab, New Delhi and other cities. People, mainly poor, middle class and upper middle class have been purchasing them because of their moderate prices and attractive designs.

The roadside cloth merchants seen all along the mainroad, RTC complex, Gokavaram bus station, Alcot Gardens, railway station, Kotipalli bus station, Lalachervu road etc in the city. On an average, they do a business in between Rs 5,000 and Rs 30,000 also basing on the material and design.

According to one cloth vendor P Shankar, they were selling silk saris for Rs 75 each for daily usage and the saris also available up to Rs 500.Meanwhile, shirts, jeans and pants are available from Rs 250 to Rs 500 depending on the quality, he added.

“Often, we are facing problems because of heavy crowd in the main road and it is tough time for us to do business in the crowd, he explained.
