Vijayawada: Commissioner of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) J Nivas has said that toilets should be maintained properly with all facilities and the staff should responsibly perform their duty. He conducted a surprise visits at New Rajiv Nagar, Kedareswarapeta and Patamata Rythu Bazaar here on Wednesday.

The Commissioner conducted a field level inspection of compost pits at Rajiv Nagar park, and enquired about the quantity of wet garbage and other chemicals used per day with the staff on duty. He instructed the staff to be cautious while filling garbage that no plastic waste would be mixed, besides the quantity of chemicals used for the garbage for decomposing. He enquired the local residents, if the staff were picking the garbage daily.

He expressed his dissatisfaction over the garbage piled up at Kedareswarapeta mango market and ordered the sanitary inspector to clean the area on a war-footing. Later, he visited Patamata Rythu Bazaar and inspected the public toilets and expressed his ire on the toilet maintenance staff for untidiness and ordered the sanitary inspector to immediately sack the maintenance staff and appoint a new person. Health officer Dr Madhusudana Rao, Executive engineer in-charge K Koteswara Rao and other staff were present.
