Change of mindset key for women empowerment

Eluru: District Collector K Bhaskar, has said that women empowerment is possible with change of mindset of men. He participated as chief guest at International Women’s Day celebrations at Collectorate here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he regretted that no gender equality was achieved. Even women were half of the population, the women did not get equal wage for equal work. Several women were still facing the gender discrimination and most of them did not even speak out their problems and the discrimination. The women should come forward to open the injustice done to them, he opined.

He stressed the need for stoppage of the authoritarian behaviour of husbands against the elected women representatives. They should be allowed to conduct their duties at their will. He suggested for women should be respected yearlong rather than honoured on International Women’s Day.

Rappelling winner I VIjayalakshmi, Madhavapuram sarpanch K Parmimala and others addressed. The Collector felicitated Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan on the occasion along with other women who showed their outstanding performance in various fields.
