Hyderabad: A galaxy of leaders led by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy paid glowing tributes to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 22nd death anniversary on Tuesday. Deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, former PCC chief M Satyanarayana Rao, labour minister Danam Nagendar and MP V Hanumantha Rao were other leaders who paid tributes to late Rajiv Gandhi.

The leaders garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Somajiguda and later attended a function organised by the PCC at Gandhi Bhavan. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy described Rajiv Gandhi as the leader who heralded India into the 21st century.A Describing Rajiv Gandhi as a great leader, visionary, able administrator and a dynamic leader, Kiran Kumar Reddy said the late prime minister had laid down his life for the integration of the country.

Kiran Kumar Reddy said Panchayatraj reforms and heralding of IT and communications revolution in the country were some of the greatest achievements of Rajiv Gandhi. He said the credit for launching many innovative programmes for the upliftment of the downtrodden in the country also goes to Rajiv Gandhi. A He gave a new direction to the country's economic progress and gave the country a pride of place in comity of world nations.

The Chief Minister said that his government will follow the path shown by Rajiv Gandhi for the upliftment of poor and will strive for an all round and balanced development of the state. Referring to his pet project Rajiv Yuvakiranalu he said the government would try to create maximum employment opportunities for the youth. He called upon the youth to imbibe the qualities of Rajiv Gandhi.

The senior leader M Satyanarayana Rao recalled his association with the Gandhi family and admired the dynamism of Rajiv Gandhi.
