Hyderabad: The hailstorms combined with heavy winds lashed five districts, Warangal, Chittoor, Prakasam, Kurnool and Kadapa in state on Monday. A person was reported killed in Warangal district while unseasonal rains damaged standing crops.
According to reports from Warangal district, large quantities of mirchi at Enumamula agriculture market were also damaged by the sudden showers leaving the farmers dazed as they were already affected by the fall in the price. According to the market sources, as many as 8 thousand bags of mirchi stocked up in the open yards of the market were soaked up due to the rains.
Following the rain the farmers resorted to mild protests demanding an assurance from the market officials on the procurement of the mirchi. The market committee secretary Srinivas Rao has assured the farmers of purchasing the produce at a proper rate, following which the farmers calmed down.
In Vardhannapet mandal in the district a farmer Uppunutala Yadagiri (54) has died and four persons suffered injuries when a shed collapsed.The crops like paddy, being harvested now, maize, watermelon and others were also damaged in several mandals in the district. Mango farmers also suffered loss due to the hailstorms. Traffic flow on Warangal-Khammam road was affected when two huge trees have fallen on the road.
Kadapa experienced hailstorm and heavy rain. Many low-lying areas in the Kadapa town were inundated.A In Prakasam district, hailstorm hit several places in Dornala, Gantavanipalle, Yadavalli and Inavalli followed by heavy rains. Several trees and electric poles were up rooted leading to disruption of power supply. Banana and cereal crops were badly affected.
In Nalgonda district, a shepherd was killed, along with 20 sheep, when lightning accompanied by thunder struck in Kulicharla village of Peddavura mandal. The victim's parents and relatives were shaken by the mishap.A In Chittoor district, hailstorm followed by rains lashed several mandals in the districts. In B Kothakota and Rayaparti mandals, several big trees and electric poles were uprooted due to high velocity winds leading to power disruption. Paddy and cereal crops were affected.
In Kurnool district, hailstorm and heavy rains played havoc with mango and paddy crops. In the high velocity winds, big tress, electric poles and thatched rooms collapsed. Panyam mandal was the worst affected.
