Tenali (Guntur): Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Friday consoled the family of Suneela and handed over an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh.A He said that happening of incidents of this nature in a city renowned for heritage and culture is unfortunate. He said that house sites have been given to the two children of the bereaved family. Apart from the ex-gratia, he said he had discussed with the Chief Minister about giving a financial aid of Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
He said that a Women's Empowerment Hall would be built in the name of Suneela at an estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh.A The Speaker said that firm steps would be taken to punish the culprits who assaulted Suneela and her daughter Mounika. He said that the demands from the family of Suneela would be looked into within two or three days. A He said that there should not be any misgivings on him who is striving to make the city a role model.
Speaking to the media, he said that he did not know about the ghastly incident till 8.30 am that day. A He said that he had instructed the Revenue Development Officer to support the bereaved family.
Issue will be raised in Assembly: YS Vijayamma YSR Congress honorary president YS Vijayamma has said that safety of women in the State is still a mirage. She offered her condolences to the Suneela's family here on Friday. Speaking to the media, YS Vijayamma demanded stringent punishment to the culprits responsible for the death of Dalit women Suneela.
Even after six decades of Independence, there is no protection to women in the country, she resented. Mushrooming liquor shops is leading to such heinous crimes in the society, she said.
She demanded speedy justice to be delivered to Suneela. The issue would be raised in Assembly, YS Vijayamma said. The sale of liquor which was about Rs 5,000 crore during YS Rajasekhara Reddy's regime had gone up to Rs 10,000 crore now, she said.
She said the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy had achieved progress in liquor sales at the cost of the health of millions of people in the State.
