A just born baby which was lifted from its mother’s lap was restored to the parents within 24 hours, thanks to the massive hunt launched by the police. The incident which took place at Gandhi Hospital put the entire staff of the maternity ward on tenterhooks with the police suspecting the involvement of an insider in the abduction. A resident of Borabanda, Sumitra gave birth to a male child around 6 .30 am on Saturday. She was soon in for a rude shock to find the baby missing from her bed. Her husband Manohar, other family members suspected it to be handiwork of a woman seen loitering around by posing as an attendant.

Hyderabad/ Tenali: A just born baby which was lifted from its mother’s lap was restored to the parents within 24 hours, thanks to the massive hunt launched by the police. The incident which took place at Gandhi Hospital put the entire staff of the maternity ward on tenterhooks with the police suspecting the involvement of an insider in the abduction. A resident of Borabanda, Sumitra gave birth to a male child around 6 .30 am on Saturday. She was soon in for a rude shock to find the baby missing from her bed. Her husband Manohar, other family members suspected it to be handiwork of a woman seen loitering around by posing as an attendant.
The Chilkaguda police rushed to the spot and launched a probe. The police took it upon as a challenge and issued a state-wide alert and also conducted searches in nearby localities. The Tenali police came across two persons Mariamma alias Mary and her nephew Kunche Navin travelling in Janmabhoomi Express with a new born baby. They were bound for Parvathinagar in Palakole in West Godavari district. They suspected something amiss and made enquiries and took them into custody.
Learning of it, the Chilkaguda police contacted Guntur Rural SP and established that the baby was the same one abducted from Gandhi Hospital. The abductors reportedly confessed to have lifted the baby when the mother was asleep. The baby was handed over to Chilakaguda police by this evening for restoring it to the mother.
