Hyderabad:Another tropical storm that has been named Cyclone Leher is expected to intensify further into a severe cyclone in the southeast Bay of Bengal. The weather system currently lies in South Andaman Sea and will cross the Andaman & Nicobar Islands between Hut Bay and Long Islands near Port Blair on Sunday night. The rapidly intensifying storm will appear in south-east Bay of Bengal by Monday or Tuesday from where it would move northwestward to strike north coastal Andhra Pradesh near Kalingapatnam by around noon on Thursday.

If the tropical storm follows the weather models, it will strike at the same areas ravaged by cyclone Phailin. This tropical storm will be stronger than Cyclone Helen that had hit the Andhra Pradesh coast near Machilipatnam last Friday.

Unlike cyclone Helen that had a wind speeds of 100 kmph with heavy rain at the time of landing, Cyclone Leher would be much stronger and could get closer to Category III of cyclones with more than 150 kmph of wind speeds while causing very heavy rain in north coastal Andhra Pradesh at the time of landfall.
