Hyderabad: Inclusion of Samala Sadasiva's life history in school curriculum, installation of his statue on Tank Bund, setting up a Vignana Kendram after his name in Adilabad district and memorial lecture on his death anniversary, are some of the demands made by well-known writers and intellectuals to honour the literary contributions of the acclaimed writer and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Sadasiva.

They were speaking at the book release of ‘Sadasiva Smruthi Sudha’ (a collection of reminiscences of Sadasiva) at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram here on Sunday. Tummuri Rammohan Rao authored the book.

Prof Jayadheer Tirumal Rao, Juluri Gourishanker (Telangana Rachaitala Vedika president), Gudipati (Palapitta Editor), Dr Chaman Singh, Dr Guduru Manoja and others took part in the programme.

Tirumal Rao laid emphasis on bringing the departed writer’s works in edition forms and organising memorial lecture on his death anniversary at various places like Hyderabad, Adilabad, and Warangal for the benefit of literary lovers.

Juluri Gourishanker expressed anguish over discrimination to literary giants from Telangana region in the unified State. The fact that Sadasiva, who deserved Padma Bhushan or a higher award, was not even honoured with Padmasri buttressed this argument, he reasoned. Telangana writers were not the ones who would lobby for recognitions or awards, and Sadasiva was a classic example, he said.

Gourishanker demanded inclusion of Sadasiva’s life history in school curriculum, setting up of his statue on Tank Bund road, besides establishing a ‘Vignana Kendram’ in his native Adilabad district.

Palapitta Editor Gudipati observed that no Telugu writer had dwelt upon Urdu, Parsi and Marathi languages as Sadasiva did. It was a pity that not even a single programme was being organised in remembrance of Kaloji Narayana Rao or Sadasiva in the Seemandhra region, although there were many admirers for both of them there, he said.

Noted writers Tummeti Raghottam Reddy, Dr Malayasri, Elanaga, Dr Udari Narayana, Dr Madugula Bhaskara Sharma, Gopagani Ravinder, Vanamala Shanker, Dhappuri Sridharacharyulu, Madugula Narayanamurthy besides S Rajavardhan (son of the writer) contributed to the memoirs published by Telugu Sahiti Sadassu, Kagaznagar.
