Hyderabad: A day after the YSR Congress Party President YS Jaganmohan Reddy met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, the party has claimed that Pawar had taken U-turn on his stand on the Telangana issue.

Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, senior leader M V Mysura Reddy said that Pawar had assured the YSRCP leaders that the issue of amendment to Article 3 would be discussed in the working committee of the party. Jagan has been demanding amendment to the Article 3 to prevent the Centre from dividing the States as per its whims and fancy.

Reddy said that the Union Minister had also supported the Jagan’s argument on the ‘unilateral’ decision taken by the Congress on the bifurcation of State, without respecting the sentiments and aspirations of Seemandhra people.

Stating that his party leader would also meet Tamil Nadu Chief minister Jayalalithaa and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, seeking their support to the campaign against the division of State, he said the leaders of BJP, CPI, CPM and Shiv Sena and Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Orissa had also extended their support to Jagan.

All the leaders agreed that the Article 3 could be misused by the party in power at the Centre and there was a need to amend it to include checks and balances. The leaders said that they would discuss the matter in their respective party fora and arrive at a conclusion, the YSR party leader added.

When asked about the YSRCP strategy in the ensuing winter session of Parliament, he said Jagan and other MPs had submitted their resignations and requested the Speaker to accept, but nothing was forthcoming. Technically, they were still members of Lok Sabha and the effort to mobilize support for a united state and amendment to the Article 3 would continue in parliament as well, he said.
