Hyderabad: As part of the five-point strategy for revamping security for women in IT corridor, the electronic surveillance system will be enhanced with installation of another 150 CCTV cameras in addition to the existing 47.

Cyberabad police have formulated the five-point strategy in collaboration with various departments against the backdrop of Abhaya gang-rape incident.

Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand said that the government had directed them to intensify security in the IT corridor after the rape. “We are planning to review the entire IT corridor security as the present arrangement was planned around five years ago. It requires revamping,” he said, adding the security measures in the IT corridor was a long awaited act.

Regulation of private transport, improving public transport system, enhancing security with increased patrolling in the IT corridor and Outer Ring Round (ORR), besides manning toll gates are some of the measures the police are planning to take under the strategy. Similarly, with the help of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), police will soon take up installation of 150 more surveillance cameras at a cost of Rs 5 crore, the commissioner stated.

These cameras will be monitored by a ‘Central Command and Control Room’, “We have now started the process of preparing tender documents in this regard,” informed C V Anand.

An inspector will be posted at the ‘Central Command and Control Room’ who will monitor the CCTV camera footage and send messages, he informed. “A helpline is also being set up there. As part of the security strategy, an awareness campaign with focus on women's security will be launched very soon which will also have short films,” asserted the commissioner.

Besides the strategy, AP police also held meetings with representatives of different IT companies, which have decided to start their own call centres for security of their women employees by collecting data relating to cabs, drivers and IT staff while going out and entering the offices.
